Blakely and Matt Cunningham
“Freedom to shape our future” – “I loved doing youth ministry,” says Matt Cunningham, now an executive recruiter. “But as I used to tell people, I also like eating and paying my bills. Most youth ministers don’t make a lot of money; that was certainly my experience.”
When a friend introduced Matt to Amway, “I was looking for a second source of income,” he shares. Working a minimum of 70 hours a week, however, “I didn’t have much time or any money to invest – so this was perfect.”
Within 18 months, Matt reached 7,500 PV and doubled the scope and impact of his ministry. “I used everything I learned about building a successful Amway™ business and applied it to my ministry. I saw this as a vehicle that would allow us to have success in every area of our lives.”
He and Blakely (a former elementary school teacher) married when Matt qualified as a Silver producer. He switched careers so he’d have evenings and weekends free to expand their business.
Now they can provide everything they need for their growing family: Rilan (7), Paxton (4), and Carsten (1). “Blakely’s able to be home with the boys and homeschools Rilan,” notes Matt, who hopes to join the fun soon.
Blakely is looking forward to additional family time as well as the flexibility to spend more time mentoring women in the business. “I’ve become more confident in who I am as a leader and helping others learn to focus on the positive,” she says.
In addition to bringing Matt into the business full time, the couple’s other goals include traveling, serving their team, and supporting beloved ministries.
Matt, whose grandpa served in World War II, feels their Amway business has made him more patriotic. “IBOs care about our country, our freedoms, and other people. Our business has given us an appreciation for the freedom we have to shape our future.”
