First Pitch – Joe Markiewicz & Family
When you love something, you share it with others. Joe Markiewicz is a Double Diamond that models that attitude with his AMWAY™ business and his love for the game of baseball.
Joe coaches his son, Bradley’s (13) baseball team in South Carolina and looks for opportunities to share his love of the game with his son. Joe and Bradley were presented with an opportunity to throw the first pitch at the Oakland A’s verses New York Yankees game in Oakland, California on July 5, 2010. Joe jumped at the chance to take Bradley to the game.
Joe soon learned that it wouldn’t be a “boys only” outing, his wife Mary Beth, and daughters Jenna (15) and Lindsey (12) said, “You’re not going without us,” so it became the opportunity for a fun, family vacation.
Saturday and Sunday (July 3-4) were filled with tourist activities that allowed the family to see more of San Francisco in two days than most people see in a week. Joe said that they hired a tour guide “that really knew the area” and moved them efficiently from one attraction to the next – Lombard Street, City Hall, Grace Cathedral, Muir Woods, Fisherman’s Wharf, and the Golden Gate Bridge to name just a few!
Monday, July 5, was game day and a limo picked them up at their hotel to take them to the stadium. There they received special VIP On-Field passes that allowed them to meet the players from both teams and watch them warm up. “We were just feet away from players that we really enjoy watching, it was so cool,” shared Joe.
Joe said he felt proud that Amway was so visible everywhere in the stadium, but he was even more proud when Bradley name’s was announced to throw the first pitch.
Any young baseball players dream was about to come true as Bradley confidently stepped onto the mound, wound up, and tossed a great pitch right across a major league home plate.
The family stayed and watched the game, and then happy and exhausted fell into the limo to head back to the hotel to dream about their next grand adventure.
