Partners in Building a Home and Dreams – Amway and SOS Children’s Villages

Haiti continues to face massive tasks in rebuilding their community, and we’ve found one way to help!

We are pleased to announce Amway’s new partnership with SOS Children’s Villages to build a home in Les Cayes, Haiti. The entire SOS Village will contain 15 family homes –each supporting nine children and their SOS Mother, a school, a medical facility, and other community facilities to support the families.

We chose to partner with SOS Children’s Villages because they have had a presence in Haiti for over 30 years and currently operate two Villages in Cap Haitien and Santo near Port-au-Prince, They work tirelessly to improve the lives and well-being for over 500 homeless or orphaned children in Haiti.

Amway, its IBOs, employees, and customers have a rare opportunity to support this incredible effort and help build a home to provide a stable and caring environment for nine children.

Amway has donated $250,000 toward the building project, and invites you to participate with them by giving what you can to a provide lasting home for nine kids and change their life.

Q. Why is Amway partnering with the SOS Children’s Villages?

A. To help SOS build a village in Haiti to care for homeless and abandoned children in the aftermath of the devastating January 2010 earthquakes.

Q. What is SOS Children’s Villages?

A. It’s an international organization dedicated to offering permanent care for orphans. It was founded in 1949, and has expanded to 500 villages in 132 countries. Each village has between 10 and 15 homes, and each home houses up to 10 children. “Special mothers” live in each home and raise the children as their own.

Q. Where will this village be built?
A. In Les Cayes, on the Caribbean coast. Two villages in Haiti – one in Cap-Haitien and one in Santo, in the Port-au-Prince area – currently provide homes for more than 500 children.

Q. What other services do the villages provide?
A. Each village also includes a kindergarten, primary school, medical center, and community facilities.

Q. What’s the construction schedule?
A. Construction is slated to begin in late 2010, depending on approval from the Haitian government and the United Nations, to ensure compliance with a master construction plan for Haiti.

Q. Has Amway made a financial commitment toward the building project?
A. Yes. It will provide $250,000 toward construction costs. This is above and beyond the more than $1 million in cash, products, and services donated by Amway, its employees, and Independent Business Owners (IBOs) in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake.

Amway invites its employees, IBOs, customers, and friends worldwide to participate with us by giving – gifts large and small are appreciated! It’s a rare opportunity to support this incredible effort and help provide a stable and caring environment for orphaned children.
