Honoring Shihan Ray Barrera

At the March 27, 2010, celebration to honor Shihan Ray Barrera’s 50 years in Karate, Master of Ceremony Jerry Devine was prepared to read four pages of Ray’s personal accomplishments…they never got to it.

Out of 99 black belts that have gone through Ray’s school, 50 were in attendance to celebrate Ray’s night and many shared their story about how Ray changed their life and allowed them to become military leaders, architects, police officers, pastors, teachers, principal, doctor, movie director…the list goes on!

The event, organized by Ray’s wife Rexanne,  included Japanese drummers, Okinawa dancers, and Native American dancers. The place was filled with energy. (Enjoy the event photos at the bottom of the blog!) Ray said that he was “humbled and emotionally touched” by everyone that was there. He was thrilled to have his Network 21 Diamond friends help with the celebration.

On the wall at Karate One International is the statement, “How can I add value to you?” What an inspirational way to live life and do business!

  • Ray and Rexanne work constantly to further other people’s success, whether it be in karate in the Amway growth, or simply in the human challenges of life. They show patience, energy, tolerance and loyalty to everyone they reach. This celebration of your 50 years in martial arts became a tribute to what you did for people as well as for you have accomplished. Bravo Ray and Rexanne.

What an honor it was to be able to participate in the celebration of Shihan Barrera’s 50 years in the martial arts. I was so impressed with the comments made by his students that show his dedication to helping others. Congratulations, it is well deserved!
