Mark Ma and Xueyun Lin
A Clear Vision – Mark Ma and Xueyun Lin arrived in Canada from China without much money in their pockets. But they were rich in hopes and dreams. Still, they never imagined they would become the first Chinese-born Canadian Diamonds in the Amway™ business.
Mark had been an engineer and Xueyun was a homemaker before they made their big move. They assumed they would take on similar roles in their new country. But language barriers and financial challenges made that difficult and both ended up in factory jobs.
They had learned about Amway just before leaving China, and realized that it might offer them the opportunities for the better life they were seeking. “But we didn’t really understand the vision and values in a clear way,” recalls Mark.
They proved to be quick learners. And they loved the products. “When I saw the dramatic changes with my skin after using ARTISTRY® products, I wanted to share my experiences with others,” says Xueyun.
It starts with relationships
They believe everything starts with friendships. “Being a good friend means building trust and influencing others in a positive way,” explains Mark. “You need to be sincere and have confidence in people. We started with friendships but soon we began to feel like we were part of a big family.”
They often invite new IBOs to events so they can see first-hand what the Amway business is all about. “I want to expand their horizons so they really understand its true potential, especially the international aspect of it,” says Mark.

They also appreciate the “at-home” benefits. “It gave us the flexibility to spend time with our children, Martin and Austin, in ways that most working parents can’t,” says Xueyun. Adds Mark with a laugh, “When people ask Martin what I do for a living, he replies, ‘He sells toothpaste.’ And when they ask him what he wants to do when he grows up, he says, ‘I want to join Amway!’”
Mark and Xueyun, too, look forward to the day when their sons are old enough to become IBOs. “This is a business you learn step by step, and they have learned a lot just by watching us,” says Mark. “But nobody can do it for you; you need to do it yourself.”
Their goal now is just to continue building a strong, sustainable business. “This is very important to us,” states Mark. “Becoming Diamonds has enabled us to help more friends succeed, and that’s what we are doing.”
