Nieves Botello and Manuel Rufino

Ripe for the picking – Not so long ago, Manuel Rufino and Nieves Botello were ready to throw in the towel on their marriage. “We worked six days a week picking berries and didn’t even have the same day off,” she says. “We never saw each other.”

Their kids (Angélica, 19, and José, 15) suffered, too. “We left at five in the morning and didn’t get home until six or seven at night,” Nieves says. “The sitter saw them more than we did.”

Money was another sore spot. “I was always selling things, like costume jewelry, on the side to provide a little extra,” she recalls. “But it was never enough.”

So when she learned about the Amway™ business opportunity, Nieves saw a ray of hope. Manuel, however, kept making excuses – “I’m too tired,” “I don’t feel well” – to avoid going out at night. Thankfully, “Our mentors had a solution – a supplement, an energy drink – for every excuse!” she replies, laughing.

“Thanks to this business, we found time together to dream of a better future for our family. Now we can help our moms, travel, and just enjoy our kids,” says Nieves, who’s eager to learn English “now that we have the time.”

The family loves having the flexibility to linger over a meal or spend the day at Disneyland. “We are model parents for our kids now,” she rejoices. “We’ve learned so much and can finally give them the life they deserve.”

Manuel joined Nieves at home in October 2011. “People are watching us and seeing that this business works,” he remarks. “Sometimes we think about moving, but people keep popping up!”

“More than anything, we want to continue helping others see the potential of this opportunity,” she says. As fellow field hands take note of their success, Manuel and Nieves realize the fields are ripe for the picking.
