Remembering a Special Friend – Jody Victor

“It was a way to keep their memory alive,” said Jody Victor. Jody helped raise funds for a  special bench honoring Vietnam Veterans from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The bench resides at the Ohio Veterans Memorial Park in Clinton, Ohio.  Jody was friends with James Douglas “Doug” Fazzino – one of the fallen soldiers. Fazzino’s sister, Tori Amos, helped in the fundraising effort.

“Those young men were courageous heroes because they were doing what their country asked of them,” Tori shared.  Yet she shares, “my heart still breaks for what our family lost.” Tori is able to understand what a parent of a military person goes through and felt more empathy for her parents when her son, Drew, served 27 months in Iraq.

The men memorialized on the bench are Air Force Captain Howard Leroy Barden, 33, killed Jan. 31, 1967; Army 1st Lt. Owen Ray Emery, 22, killed Feb. 22, 1967; Fazzino, 20, an Army Corporal killed June 11, 1968; Army Pfc. Joseph Ellis Guenther, 23, killed Oct. 7, 1968; Army Capt.
