Habitat for Humanity Guatemala – Join the build team!

August 19, 2010 at 7:29 pm ,

Amway and ex-NFL player Tim Foley pledge $750,000 for Guatemala homes.

Music and smoke blasted onstage at Orlando’s Marriott World Center. It was the home coming event for eFinity. Amway Latin America and ex-NFL player Tim Foley, an eFinity leader,  announced a commitment of two gifts totaling $750,000 to Habitat for Humanity International.

The pledges will fund the Habitat Colony project by Amway. The project includes a community of 50 homes to be built over five years through Habitat Guatemala. In addition to the money, Amway plans to send volunteers to at least one build each in nine other Latin American countries starting in 2011.

The Habitat office in Guatemala has created a colony approach to building homes. Families in the Amway Colony will have tenure to the land and basic services such as water, sanitation, electricity, drainage, roads, and public recreation areas.

Join the eFinity team for an adventure of a lifetime in Zacapa, Guatemala

Each year eFinity business associates team up with Habitat for Humanity International for a week long trip to Zacapa, Guatemala, where memories are made and lasting friendships are built, as homes come together for families in desparate need.

The eFinity team returns every year to this area which has seen a dramatic rise in need in recent years, with 20% of families living in extreme poverty.

For the eFinity team, this charitable work is something that has always been at the top of their priority list.

After participating for years in the Teculutan project, eFinity was the first team to build on a new piece of land in the Zacapa, Huite Colony, in 2009 and again in 2010. After 2011, work will begin on the Amway Colony, a piece of land purchased in the Zacapa area by the Amway Corporation. Amway gifted $500,000 to Habitat for this huge next step in an area so dear to eFinity.

Habitat for Humanity Guatemala works in collaboration with people across the social spectrum to support low income families in the development of their communities. Through the construction and renovation of houses, the organization aims to ensure that every person in the community will have an adequate place to call home.

The next trip is planned for February 16-23, 2011. The arrival day into Guatemala City is February 16 and departure is February 23.  Zacapa is approximately 3.5 hours by bus from Guatemala City. That bus ride will deliver you to a place you will remember for the rest of your life. The weather is warm, the workload is tough, but at the end of each day, it is always a fun time of kicking back with good friends, exchanging stories, singing, swimming, and even playing games. We find time to do it all.

As a participant of this build you will be responsible for your own airfare in and out of Guatemala City, as well as your in-country expenses. In-country expenses include your housing, ground transportation, and all meals ($525-$550). Team leader, Tim Foley, graciously pays for each attendee’s participation fee ($450-$500).

You are invited to join this team on this rewarding and memorable adventure. You will be more than glad you did.
