This Business Has Changed Everything – Alberto & Isabel Deval
Texas, Alberto Deval’s immigration story is not the typical one of laying it all on the line to pursue the American Dream. “I came to the U.S. as a young child,” he explains. “I didn’t know about goals and dreams until I was introduced to the AMWAY™ business opportunity.”
What Alberto did know about was hard work. “For 23 years, I worked in the fields picking oranges, grapes, and potatoes.”
Long days marked by repetitious work and extreme temperatures conspired to make Alberto believe life would never change. Even after marrying Isabel (a former social worker) and starting a family (Ariel, Diana, and David), he “couldn’t see beyond” his small community in California.
When Alberto learned about the AMWAY business opportunity and that he could generate some extra income, he jumped on it. He admits, “It took me six months – six hard months – to convince Isabel to join me.”
“This business has changed everything,” Alberto says. “Our finances. Our hopes and dreams. Even us.”
Isabel agrees. “I didn’t really know all of my husband’s talents until I watched him grow the business. He has really flourished,” she says.
These days, their horizons have expanded. “We moved to Texas not long ago and enjoy traveling all over the U.S. and Mexico,” Alberto says. “Whenever we’re in an airplane I look at Isabel and ask, ‘Can you imagine if we hadn’t built our AMWAY business?’”
She’s happy they did. “I thank our upline all the time for introducing us to the AMWAY business opportunity. We were like this little plant that needed to grow in the sunshine and we were always in the shade. We are so proud and grateful to help others reach their full potential through this business opportunity,” she says.
The average monthly gross income earned by “active” IBOs was $115 (U.S.)/$181 (CAN.).
The success depicted may reflect income and investments outside the IBO Compensation Plan. Approximately 66% of all IBOs of record were found to be active.* The percentage of IBOs who achieved Founders Executive Diamond and above qualification in FY08 was .00565%.
*Based on an independent survey during 2001, “Active” means an IBO attempted to make a retail sale, or presented the Amway Independent Business Owner Compensation Plan, or received bonus money, or attended a company or IBO meeting in the year 2000.
“Gross income” means the amount received from retail sales, minus the cost of goods sold, plus the amount of Performance Bonus retained. There may be significant business expenses, mostly discretionary, that may be greater in relation to income in the first years of operation.
